OS Superlock limited slip differential Cayman & Boxster 987.2 (2.9 or 3.4 liter models with G87 gearbox)
- What kind of limited slip differential is this?
It concerns one Clutch-Type LSD, this can be roughly compared with the ZF limited slip differentials as supplied in the BMW M3, M4 GT4, Porsche 911 GT3 RS or Nissan GTR Nismo.
- Why is this differential more expensive than most other limited slip differentials?
This is a new limited slip differential, not a reconditioned one. The best techniques and materials have been used, the disadvantages of a traditional sperdiff have disappeared. However, this high-quality technology has its price.
- Can it be compared to a Quaife or other Torsen?
Partially. This limited slip differential is also maintenance-free. However, much more is possible in terms of adjustment, the differential also locks with 1 wheel off the ground (unlike a Quaife) and it also locks during braking/deceleration. In addition, blocking up to 100% is possible, so more power can be transferred to the road surface. And there will be noticeably better stability in your car with an OS Giken, while with a Quaife you can sometimes be unpleasantly surprised. In addition, the superlock is very suitable for drifting and a Quaife or other twists are considerably less suitable
- Wat is OS Giken?
OS Giken is a high-tech originally Japanese company that specializes in tuning engine blocks and supplies high-quality clutches, differentials and gearboxes, among other things. It is very famous in Asia and America, in Europe mainly for Asian brands such as Nissan.
- Why this limited slip differential?
Design can handle more power
Blocking effect up to 100%, but without the disadvantages that normally occur with 100% blocking effect
No maintenance is required, the plates hardly wear out. There are racing teams that have been running the diff for 10 years without any problems and have only changed the oil.
Adjustable acceleration/deceleration locking function
Due to the ideal adjustment and the 100% lock, you can expect better lap times or more controllable drifts. The differential can also be adjusted so that it can be driven on public roads. It will have the advantages of an open differential when driving slowly, and the grip of a racing limited slip differential when accelerating.
Central springs / negative preload (yellow box drawing)
The big difference is in the central springs that pull the pressure pieces (which exert pressure on the blocking plates) AGAINST each other. These springs actually ensure that there is little locking effect when driving quietly, parking, or (braking) steering. This spring will increase during acceleration
can still be overcome, and the differential will lock.
The differential has been proven by professional teams around the world in rallying, racing and drifting.
An OS Giken limited slip differential guarantees better stability and grip for every type of car. Rear-wheel drive, front-wheel drive, four-wheel drive. Rear, front or middle engine, we will help you determine the correct configuration.
You can always inquire about the possibilities without obligation, and we are also happy to answer any questions about the Superlock.
The OS Superlock is available for almost every sporty brand: Acura Alfa Romeo Audi BMW Chevrolet Chrysler Dodge Ferrari Ford Honda Hyundai Infiniti Lexus Lotus Mazda Mercedes Benz Mini Mitsubishi Nissan Porsche Scion Subaru Toyota Volvo

Porsche models with the G87 gearbox
The G87 is a 6-speed manual transmission from Getrag, which is mainly used in Porsche's mid-engine models from the 987 generation (Boxster and Cayman). It is a transaxle design with triple cone synchronization for smooth shifting. There are variants such as G87.20 and G87.21 depending on year of manufacture and engine configuration, but they all fall under the G87 family.
Below is an overview of the models in which the G87 gearbox is standard or optional:
| Model | Year(s) of construction | Variant(s) | Comments |
|---|---|---|---|
| Porsche Boxster S (987) | 2005-2008 | G87.20 (2005-2006), G87.21 (2007-2008) | Standard 6-speed manual transmission for the 3.2L and 3.4L engines. |
| Porsche Cayman S (987) | 2006-2008 | G87.20 (2006), G87.21 (2007-2008) | Standard 6-speed manual gearbox for the 3.4L engine. |
| Porsche Boxster (987) | 2005-2008 | G87.01 | 5-speed variant for the base models (2.7L engine), sometimes classified under G87 series. |
| Porsche Cayman (987) | 2007-2008 | G87.01 | 5-speed variant for the base models (2.7L engine). |
Important notes:
- The G87 is specific to the 987 series and not for older (986) or newer generations (981 with G87/36 or PDK. OS Giken partnr: PR153-HA). From 2009 onwards, Porsche switched to other transmissions such as the G87.10 for 987.2 models, but these are not always classified as pure G87.
- These gearboxes are reliable but can have synchro problems at high mileage; upgrades are available.
- For exact compatibility per VIN, consult a Porsche dealer or PET catalogue.
